Picket Duty: Kamikaze Attacks Against U.S. Destroyers – Okinawa 1945 (2nd Edition) is a solitaire wargame that places the player in command of a Fletcher-class destroyer assigned to radar picket duty during the Battle of Okinawa.
Your mission is simple to state and difficult to achieve: survive. From late March to late June 1945, the U.S. Navy’s radar picket destroyers formed an early warning screen around Okinawa, putting them directly in the path of Japanese kamikaze attacks. In Picket Duty, you must manage the ship, crew, weapons, radar, damage control, ammunition, fuel, and support assets while waves of aircraft close in.
The game includes a basic game, advanced game, historical and hypothetical scenarios, a mini-campaign, and a full campaign. Each turn is divided into three eight-hour phases, with key crew members and damage control teams represented as part of the ship’s survival system.
Features include weather, damage control, ammunition and fuel consumption, ship trim and listing, land and ship radar, air and surface fire support, Ohka attacks, and 35 types of Japanese aircraft represented on large 1.2" counters.
This is a strong choice for solitaire players interested in naval warfare, Okinawa, kamikaze attacks, and detailed survival-style WWII simulations.
Contents include: one 22" x 34" game map, 160 0.6" game counters, 240 1.2" aircraft counters, a 24-page rulebook, a 20-page chart book, four player aids, eight scenarios, a mini-campaign, and a full campaign
