Richard III: The Wars of the Roses

Richard III: The Wars of the Roses is a two-player block wargame from Columbia Games, covering the dynastic struggle between the houses of Lancaster and York for the throne of England.

One player commands the Lancastrians, beginning with control of the throne, while the other leads the exiled Yorkists as they attempt to return and claim power. Across the game, kingship can be won, lost and won again as nobles shift allegiance and rival heirs fight for survival.

Victory depends on eliminating enemy heirs and securing the support of England’s powerful nobles. Key figures such as Henry VI, Queen Margaret, Edward IV, Warwick the Kingmaker, Henry VII and Richard III all appear in the struggle.

Using Columbia’s wooden block system, the game creates hidden information, bluffing and uncertainty around noble loyalties and military strength. It is a strong choice for players interested in medieval politics, the Wars of the Roses and tense two-player historical strategy games.
