The player commands the attacking German forces, while the game system controls the defending Soviet forces. Built around area movement and a dedicated solitaire system, the game creates uncertainty through random events, supply pressure, hidden Soviet strength, and unpredictable defensive responses.

The deeper the German forces push into the city, the harder the resistance becomes. German morale, supply, casualties, and timing all matter as the player tries to seize Stalingrad before the attack loses momentum.
