Against the Odds Annual 2022: Stalingrad – Verdun on the Volga is a magazine-annual wargame reprint of the classic Last Stand Games design on the battle of Stalingrad.

Stalingrad: Verdun on the Volga gives players a broad treatment of the battle for Stalingrad, including the city itself and battlefield zones to the north and south. The game is designed to reduce rules overhead while still giving both sides difficult operational choices, sudden swings of fortune, and constant pressure.

The German player must push hard, manage attrition, and try to seize the decisive areas before time and Soviet resistance turn the battle into a trap. The Soviet player must absorb the assault, counterattack where possible, and use the wider battlefield to keep the Germans under pressure.

The game includes several play options, from a shorter five-turn basic or tournament game to longer campaign options with victory checks at turns 5, 10, and 15. A historical option also challenges the Germans to capture all areas along the Volga.
