The Great Game recreates the nineteenth-century struggle between Victorian Britain and Tsarist Russia for influence in Central Asia. Players move officers, troops, and imperial influence across a point-to-point map, using diplomacy, military pressure, intrigue, and proxy conflict to pull key states such as Afghanistan and Bokhara into their camp.

Turns represent decades, giving the game a broad political and strategic sweep rather than a purely battlefield focus. Random historical events such as the Crimean War and Sepoy Mutiny can disrupt imperial plans, while officers and local forces shape the contest for the passes, khanates, and frontier regions between Russia and British India.
