A Gest of Robin Hood

Part of GMT’s Irregular Conflicts Series, A Gest of Robin Hood adapts the COIN system into a fast-playing, two-player experience set in late 12th century England. This is a tactical–operational game, focused on cat-and-mouse movement, local control, and short-term decision-making rather than long campaign planning.

One player leads Robin Hood and his Merry Men, building support among the population, robbing wealth, and evading capture. The other controls the Sheriff of Nottingham, working to maintain order, secure roads, and suppress rebellion before it spreads. Each side has distinct tools and objectives, creating a tight asymmetric duel where positioning and timing matter more than brute force.

The system streamlines classic COIN mechanics into a more accessible format, making it a strong entry point for new players while still offering meaningful decisions. Hidden movement plays a central role, with Robin slipping through forests and settlements while the Sheriff attempts to track him down. Meanwhile, moving wealth across the map creates both opportunity and risk, as ambushes, traps, and unexpected encounters can quickly shift momentum.
