Carrier Battle Group Solitaire

Carrier Battle Group Solitaire is a standalone solitaire Cold War naval wargame from Decision Games, placing you in command of a U.S. Navy carrier task force in the North Atlantic during a hypothetical 1980s conflict with the Soviet Union.

You must manage a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, its air group, and its escorts while completing scenario objectives generated by Mission Orders chits. Missions may send your task force to secure the Denmark Strait, support operations in the Arctic, strike Murmansk, escort reinforcements to Norway, support NATO operations in Central Europe, or hunt a rogue Soviet ballistic-missile submarine.

The game system controls the Soviet opposition, including warships, aircraft, missiles, and unexpected incidents. Carrier operations are shown in detail, while some wider U.S. Navy and Soviet actions are handled more abstractly. As the Soviet Alert Level rises, the chance of encountering enemy forces increases, and combat is resolved through the game’s Tactical Routine.

This deluxe edition updates the game first published in Modern War #14 with new map and counter artwork, a mounted game board, updated rules, new player aid cards, and a campaign analysis article.
