Nemesis: Burma, 1944 is a World War II campaign wargame covering the dramatic fighting in Burma between Japanese forces and the Allied armies under Slim, Stilwell, Wingate, and Chinese command.
The game focuses on the 1944 campaign as the Japanese offensive meets a better-prepared Allied response. British, Indian, Chinese, American-supported, Chindit, and Japanese forces all operate across a difficult theatre where supply, unit quality, timing, and command priorities matter as much as raw strength.
At the heart of the system is the “Open Game Turn,” where Assault, Attack, Supply Check, and Reinforcement phases are drawn as chits. Players cannot be certain when each phase will appear, making positioning and timing crucial. Unit quality affects combat, supply endurance, zones of control, and the ability to conduct operational movement.
Combat uses an “Active Combat” system, where retreats must be enforced by the attacker and defenders may choose whether to give ground or stand and take further losses. The Japanese player also has options to gain combat shifts at a cost, reflecting aggressive tactical doctrine under severe pressure.
Victory uses a two-layer point system, forcing both players to balance local objectives, wider command expectations, and the changing situation on the map. Nemesis is a strong fit for players interested in the Burma campaign, operational WWII games, and tense systems where the mechanics are manageable but the decisions are not.
Contents include: one 22" x 34" map, 126 0.75" counters, 176 0.6" counters, a 16-page colour rulebook, two 8.5" x 11" player aids, and the full game.
