Schutztruppe: Heia Safari is a World War I wargame covering the East African campaign from 1914 to 1918.
Players command German, British, South African, Portuguese, and Belgian forces in a theater where supply, mobility, weather, and local conditions matter as much as raw numbers. The game portrays the long campaign of the German Schutztruppe under Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck against a much larger Allied force.
Special rules cover supply depots, replacements, rail movement, naval transport, naval battles, amphibious assaults, aircraft, blockade runners, garrisons, infiltration, ambushes, artillery, and reaction movement. The result is a detailed but playable treatment of one of the First World War’s most unusual campaigns.
With moderate complexity, strong solitaire suitability, and a playing time of up to around three hours, this is a good fit for players interested in lesser-known WWI theaters and operational challenges beyond the Western Front.
Contents include: mounted 22” x 34” map, three 9/16” countersheets with 358 counters, rules booklet, two order of battle displays, two player aid cards, one six-sided die, and a box with lid.
